April 5, 2009 Sunday New Six

Today was the Union Level Event for Pathfinder Bible Achievement. Three teams have made it this far--one from Kentucky and two from Tennessee. The teams that score high enough at this level will go on to the Division Level at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI on the 18th of April.
Our team is doing some last minute cramming.
The event begins. Questions are displayed on the screen, read twice by the quiz master, and 10 seconds are given for the teams to write their answers and pass them to the judges.

The lady on the left is the quiz master. The three people at the table are the panel judges who get to decide if an answer is correct if it differs from the answer on the screen.
This is the team from Kentucky. They did not score high enough to advance to the next level.
This is our team. We advanced and are going to Andrews University!
This is the other team from Tennessee. They also advanced--they have been trying for years to get this far--finally, they made it!

March 22, 2009 Sunday New Six

Today was such a warm, sunny day that I decided to go for a walk around the yard. I use the term "yard" loosely since we have 15 acres. It was really hard to pick just six pictures to use, but hopefully you'll get a sense of what our yard is like.
I came out the back door and took this shot from the top of the steps and looking left--our backyard.
I turned right from the back steps and went to the pond below my dad's house.

I walked up the hill from the pond to Dad's house, took pictures of his apple orchard, then made my way across this field (along the roadside fenceline) and took this picture looking back at his house from the top of our driveway.
I walked down the driveway, detoured toward the same pond to take pictures of a blooming peach tree and then took this picture of the front yard and the house.
Then I cut across the front yard (toward the left), passed through our fruit orchard (peach, plum, apple, walnut) and went to the other pond. A large tree has fallen across it--if we can figure out how, we'll cut it up for firewood.
I came back up the hill from the second pond and took this picture of our orchard. The line of daffodils is lining our driveway. I circled around to the left of this view and took pictures of our garden (not planted yet) and shed--then returned to the house. Maybe next week I'll revisit some of the places I had to leave out of this week's tour.

March 15, 2009 Sunday Recap Six

Spring has finally sprung! In looking through my pictures from last week, I found lots of spring blooms from our yard.

Our plum tree, almost ready to bloom

A tree probably planted by the birds--not sure what variety--looks like the Bradford Pear

March 8, 2009 Sunday Recap Six

Our Pathfinder Bible Achievement team had their Conference Level Event on Thursday night. Due to scheduling difficulties, all the eligible teams were unable to meet together for this event so it is being held at three times and locations. We won't know the outcome for a couple of weeks.
The sunset on Thursday night was gorgeous.

I stopped by a park while out running errands and got a couple good bird pictures. This Great Blue Heron was chasing a gull with a fish before it landed here.
This Ring-billed Gull seems to be wondering who that good-looking fellow is staring back at him.
Mr. M's cats--Pepper (left) and Socks (right) that I am taking care of.
In memory of Mr. Meador--my neighbor who I was housekeeper and then caregiver for for many years--passed away on Friday from pneumonia. He was 89 years old. This picture was taken from a framed photo of him (when I realized that I didn't have any pictures of him).

March 1, 2009 Sunday New Six

Sunday, I went back to the boarding academy where I attended high school. It's been about four years since I was there last.
This is the church.

This is the music building (lower floor) and cafeteria (upper floor).
Here is the gymnasium.
This boys' dormitory is new.
The administration building is the lower one, the girls' dormitory is behind it.

This is the house on campus where I lived with my aunt for four years.

February 22, 2009 Sunday Recap Six

It snowed last night--we had about a half an inch on the ground this morning. This is part of our backyard.
When we went out to the car to go to church yesterday, we noticed that Mike's tire was flat.

I took a picture of the snow as it fell last night--I liked how this one only showed the snow with nothing in the background.
While visiting a friend in the hospital yesterday afternoon, I noticed that the rain (which later turned to snow) was creating steam as it fell on these lights on the outside of the hospital.
I looked up on Friday morning and saw that several planes had been playing tic tac toe in the sky.
This is an interesting house down the road (about 10 miles) from home. I have always liked the look of it.
